SSA - Severn Sailing Association

Home of One Design Racing as they called it. Yet, they couldn't conduct a proper race. The race committee committed a hideous amount of mistakes so much so that when I left, there are still protests going on,

1. They had this nice boat, with yards running nicely for flying flags. Not used at all.
2. Instead, they used the two smallest available dry erase board, and scribbled, "420" "Laser / Radial" and a "W" or "T" mounted on the starboard side.
3. Dropping the upwind mark 5 seconds before the class flag comes down. (Race starts proper)
4. Starting the Laser fleet at 2 minutes i/o of 3 min.
5. 1 Tack race course.
6. Scoring William DNS (Did Not Start) for the 3rd race, which was probably his best. I was right at the pin end, and he started the race proper.

But like I said, having said all these, if we did not do well today, it is certainly not thru any fault of the race committee, because the other sailors still manage to come in pretty well.

Ok, enough of me whining. Let's look on the bright side.

1. Josh got a 2nd and 1st in race 3 and 4 respectively. I wouldn't say "All thanks to his new radial sail" He actually did quite an impressive start in the 4th race, even calling *starboard* on his "girlfriend".. haha.. just kidding.. not girlfriend. its just a girl he wanted to beat.

2. Josh has a new radial DR2+ North Sail. Ok, maybe I've mentioned it already. but He has a new sail. haha

3. Matt did pretty good the 1st race. No, its not because the race committee messed up, he actuallly anticipated it! keke

4. Chris had a moment of brilliance and his best race is a 7th placing in the 4th race.

5. In true blue Williamtology - We took last 6 slots with some other kid placed in the middle of that. I think they know how much harderd they must work.

6. The trailer was loaded in an almost record time. WhhhhhhEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEE

7. The rigging was pretty well done, we were set up in good time, just to be thwart be the green fleeters.

Now for the bad part.

1. We are pretty weak in reading windshifts.
2. Needing to size up the competition at the starting line and not to disadvantage yourself.
3. Plan the sail and sail the plan. Only a few did that.
4. Lay lines need to be worked on.
5. More aggressive starts are needed.

Now we wait for the JO's
