Sailing, is a sport that seriously challenge you in every aspect you can think of, I once read about somebody, trying to explain the sport of sailing to a non-sailor. It is like playing football, 'cept that the field is changing all the time. You have to be prepared for every single situation that may happen and you have to be that complete sailor that everybody talks about. If you are caught lacking in one department, you can be sure that somebody will punish you in exactly that area in a race.
Which is how I am modeling my training program after. 8 weeks, is not going to make anybody an Olympic champion. My goal, is to teach them, how to be able to conduct their own training, which is why, I will usually spend more time explaining the drills and their objectives and how it applies in a race during briefing and de-briefing. Discipline on and off the water is of the utmost importance in sailing. Then come attitude.
On shore, we do warm ups, some upper body resistance exercises like push ups and press ups, and without fail, wall squats. We have progressed from 3 sets of 1 min, to 3 sets of 3 mins.
We also have a basic set of drills that they all have to do once they hit the waters. It is basically a buncha 360's, 10 clockwise, and 10 anti clockwise. The aim is to complete it as quickly as possible while making as small a circle possible. Your heart gets pumped quite a fair bit during this drill but it has been proven to improve your boat handling skills in the shortest amount of time.
Josh n Brayn in their little corner during the wall squats session
William in his own lil corner
N here's Jeff
Chris - always the model, with Michael, his inseparable twin
There was some rabbits around the park the other day while the kids are doing their squats, and they wanted so much to catch it, so at the end of the squat, I shouted "GO GET ME SOME RABBITS!!!" Jeffy ran and was chasing one when it ducked right under the table, you can guess what happened next...
William during our warm up sessions, doing some back stretches
Josh enjoying a joke abt this "Sea Lion Stretch" as some of them call it
Jeff showing off his braces
Josh just can't get enough of it
Different ways of passing time on the wall. From Left - Matt prefers to meditate, while the inseparable twins talks it out.

Some people just have weird ways to rig up their boats...

Jeff Jr
Lean and Mean
Staying cool
With a perpetual smile on his face always
Its too early in the morning!!! Oh No! Where's the wind??
Matt with his signature "take his time while rigging up and down" The only consolation is that he dun come with the bus nor have to rush for the bus.

Chris having a good time with William's new carbon tiller.
